"Erzsebet" or Elisabeth Amalie Eugenie, Princess of Bavaria (December 24, 1837 – September 10, 1898) of the House of Wittelsbach, was the Empress consort of Austria and Queen consort of Hungary due to her marriage to Emperor Franz Joseph. She was also referred to by her familiar name as "Sissi", and was depicted in the 1955 German movie by Romy Schneider. The real Sissi was stabbed in the heart and killed by an anarchist named Luigi Lucheni on September 10, 1898, in Geneva, Switzerland. |
