Looks silver but debased, cast, 33m x 30mm and thick, hole looks like it was made after it was cast, approx 30.2 grams, interesting crude style, I believe this was made to emulate local production of 8 reale coins in the 1700s, but was actually made in Mexico in the late 1940s or early 1950s.
Per swamperbob: This coin I own two copies of. My two both came from Richard Long. He got them from the Virgil Hancock collection. In fact,one was part of a display that Hancock took to the 1970 Louisiana ANA show where he did a class on forgeries. He referred to them as Modern Tourist Class (ca 1950). I have the original holders labeled by Hancock himself. |
